IMAX: Dunkirk

Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. The film’s ensemble cast includes Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy and Barry Keoghan, with Kenneth Branagh (“My Week with Marilyn,” “Hamlet,” “Henry V”), Cillian Murphy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall”) and Tom Hardy (“The Revenant,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Inception”).

Following his use of IMAX cameras in The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, Christopher Nolan designed Dunkirk for IMAX – capturing a large portion of the film with IMAX’s 15perf 65m film cameras, the highest-resolution cameras in the world. Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Pole in the World

Special Event - Guided by First Nations Elders, this documentary explores Indigenous veterans and how they are remembered today. It traces the 1956 raising of the story pole at MEE-qan (Beacon Hill Park), carved by Mungo Martin, Henry Hunt, and David Martin, while uncovering the mystery of the veterans’ plaque and its connection to truth and reconciliation.

This screening marks the 70th anniversary of the raising of the story pole. A moderated Q&A with director Geoffrey Bird will follow.

National Indigenous Peoples Day - Directed by Darlene Naponse, AKI (Anishinaabemowin for "earth" or "land") is a meditative, visually immersive documentary set in Atikameksheng Anishnawbek in Northern Ontario, Canada. Filmed over seasonal years, this unscripted project unfolds entirely without narration or dialogue, instead relying on the aural textures of wind, water, animal and human life, and ceremony to tell the story of a people fully rooted in their land. The film is enhanced by a moving and stunning original score composed by Juno-nominated cellist and composer Cris Derksen.
