3D The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - An IMAX® 3D Experience

Opens February 13, 2015 - The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo's frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide - unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance. Run Time: 2hr, 24min, Rating PG 13.

Taking audiences on this illuminating rafting trip are two environmental heroes: world-renowned river advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and author. Anthropologist/ explorer Wade Davis, accompanied by their daughters Kirk Kennedy and Tara Davis. They are guided by Shana Watahomigie, a member of the Havasupai tribe and the first Native American to become a National Park Ranger and river guide.

A stirring score, featuring songs and music from the Grammy Award®-winning Dave Matthews Band, sets the mood for this adventure that explores the issues, presents real solutions, and delivers an uplifting message of hope for future generations. 45 min. Rated G

IMAX: Great White Shark

Special Screening- It's a symbol of terror and extreme ferocity. It evokes nightmares among those who perceive it as a devouring machine, seeking its next prey. The great white shark, however, is itself on the verge of extinction, the victim of a merciless predator: Man.

Shot on location in South Africa, New Zealand, Mexico and California, the film looks to find the truth behind the mythic creature forever stigmatized by its portrayal in the world's first blockbuster movie, Jaws.

Great White Shark aims to reveal the strength and beauty of these animals by looking through the eyes of those who have been touched by their shark encounters: Mike Rutzen, South African shark expert, who swims with great whites in the aptly named Shark Alley; Chris Lowe, who has been tagging juvenile great whites off the coast of Los Angeles and discovering more and more of their secret life; and two record-breaking freedivers, Frederic Buyle and William Winram, who tag Great Whites by simply holding their breath and freediving with the sharks.

The film culminates in a direct encounter between man and shark.

Great White Shark concludes the oceanic trilogy begun by Wild Ocean and The Last Reef and brings nature's greatest predator to giant screens as never before... Rated G, Run time: 45 min.

IMAX: Vikings: Journey to New Worlds

Special Screening - Vikings: Journey to New Worlds will be presented in conjunction with the exhibition We Call them Vikings, produced by the Swedish History Museum, on display at the Royal BC Museum from May 16 to Nov 11, 2014.

They came from the North and soon legends said that they did not know fear. They sailed icy oceans and narrow rivers, striking far inland without warning, without mercy. For hundreds of years, they were another name for "terror". However, the truth about the Vikings is far more complex. Much of Europe's traditions, technology and institutions come to us from these fierce men of the North.

Shot on location in Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland, this greathtaking IMAX film joins the Viking warriors, explorere and settlers as they set out in search of new lands. The North Atlantic Sagas come to life as we follow Eric the Red and his son Leif Ericsson, first to Greenland and then on to North America. State-of-the-art digital graphics dramatically illustrate the unique shipbuilding techniques that were the key to propelling the Vikings across the Atlantic and into history. Rated G. Run Time 45 min.
