IMAX: Cinderella: The IMAX Experience

The Story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother and her daughters Anastasia and Drisella into the family home. But, when Ella's father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honour her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind". She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella's hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit. Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman steps forward and - armed with a pumpkin and a few mice - changes Cinderella's life forever. Rated PG-13. Run time: 1hr, 52min.

There, the Ashante tribe's King permitted the crew to film the rarely seen sacred Golden Stool which is said to hold the souls of all the Ashante people. In Canada, an explosion displaces 100,000 tons of ore in the largest open pit gold mine in the country. Scenes include the Royal Canadian Mint featuring a fortune in gold bars. Run time 45 min. IMAX: Wonders of the Arctic

The Inuit and their predecessors adapted and thrived for thousands of years in what is arguably the harshest environment on earth. Today, the Arctic is the focus of intense research. Instead of seeking to conquer the north, scientist pioneers are searching for answers to some troubling questions about the impacts of human activities around the world on this fragile and largely uninhabited frontier.

Wonders of the Arctic centers on our ongoing mission to explore and come to terms with the Arctic, and the compelling stories of our many forays into this captivating place will be interwoven to create a unifying message about the state of the Arctic today. Underlying all these tales is the crucial role that ice plays in the northern environment and the changes that are quickly overtaking the people and animals who have adapted to this land of ice and snow. Run time 45 min. Rated G.

IMAX: Vikings: Journey to New Worlds

Special Screening - Vikings: Journey to New Worlds will be presented in conjunction with the exhibition We Call them Vikings, produced by the Swedish History Museum, on display at the Royal BC Museum from May 16 to Nov 11, 2014.

They came from the North and soon legends said that they did not know fear. They sailed icy oceans and narrow rivers, striking far inland without warning, without mercy. For hundreds of years, they were another name for "terror". However, the truth about the Vikings is far more complex. Much of Europe's traditions, technology and institutions come to us from these fierce men of the North.

Shot on location in Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland, this greathtaking IMAX film joins the Viking warriors, explorere and settlers as they set out in search of new lands. The North Atlantic Sagas come to life as we follow Eric the Red and his son Leif Ericsson, first to Greenland and then on to North America. State-of-the-art digital graphics dramatically illustrate the unique shipbuilding techniques that were the key to propelling the Vikings across the Atlantic and into history. Rated G. Run Time 45 min.

IMAX: Tornado Alley

Special Screening - Traversing the "severe weather capital of the world," TORNADO ALLEY documents one of Earth's most awe-inspiring events -- the birth of a tornado. Filmmaker Sean Casey's personal quest to capture the birth of a tornado with a 70mm camera takes viewers on a breathtaking journey into the heart of the storm. A team of equally driven scientists, the VORTEX2 researchers, experience the relentless strength of nature's elemental forces as they literally surround tornadoes and the supercell storms that form them, gathering the most comprehensive severe weather data ever collected.
