Book Launch: GYETK (To Feed the People): Coastal Fusion and Ancestral Knowledge from a Ts’msyen Kitc

Thursday, September 24, 2026 - 5:30 PM

Running Time: 1 hour & 30 minutes

Join Ts’msyen (Tsimshian) authors Rachel Greening and Spencer Greening for the launch of their new book, GYETK (To Feed the People): Coastal Fusion and Ancestral Knowledge from a Ts’msyen Kitchen.

Blending Indigenous food sovereignty, traditional ecological knowledge, scholarship, and contemporary cooking, GYETK features 60 recipes inspired by traditional Ts’msyen foods alongside personal stories and reflections from the authors' lives, research, and harvesting practices. The book explores the vital role Indigenous food systems play in health, culture, and community, while highlighting ancestral knowledge and sustainable harvesting traditions of the Pacific Northwest Coast.

Rachel Greening is a Registered Dietitian and Indigenous food scholar whose work focuses on the role of traditional foods in supporting Indigenous health and wellness. Spencer Greening is an anthropologist whose research centers on Indigenous harvesting practices, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, archaeology, and the restoration of ancestral food systems.

  • The evening will feature a conversation with the authors, a discussion of the inspiration and research behind the book, an audience Q&A, and an opportunity to purchase books and meet the authors.
