Outreach Kit Rental - Using reproductions, props and games, students in grades k-1 and 3-4 will discover that: bats are interesting; bats are important; bats are in trouble; and bats need our help.

Kit: Building Community (Paldi)

Outreach Kit Rental - Using photographs and reproductions, students will engage with the question “What or who influenced the start, growth and decline of Paldi?”.

In addition to learning more about South Asian Canadian history in BC, students will also learn how to use primary sources to learn about the past and get glimpses into the lives of children who were in Paldi in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.

Kit: Canada C3 Giant Floor Map

Outreach Kit Rental - Students from k to 12 can engage with the giant Canada C3 floor map in a variety of ways to stimulate deeper thinking about geography, Canada’s coastline, Indigenous coastal communities, traditional knowledge and more. The map was created as part of the Canada Coast to Coast to Coast journey (Canada C3) and the Royal BC Museum was proud to be a Community Hub location and to have two of our scientists Dr. Joel Gibson and Dr. Henry Choong on board for the journey.

Kit: Great Bear Rainforest

Outreach Kit Rental - Using reproductions, props and games, students in grades k-3 will learn about: rainforest characteristics; the location of the Great Bear Rainforest; and the animals that live in the Great Bear Rainforest.

Kit: Having a Voice

Outreach Kit Rental - Having a Voice is designed to fit the Grade 5 Social Studies: Canadian Issues and Governance curriculum. All classes and community groups are invited to use the kit. Students or community groups will use the contents of this kit and their inquiry process skills to address participation and representation in BC politics, the electoral process and electoral boundaries.

Kit: Museum Mystery Suitcase

Outreach Kit Rental - Seniors in assisted living or long-term care can engage with mystery objects to stimulate thinking and to spend time sociably with others.

Since the objects are mysteries, seniors don t have to worry about whether or not they remember. Instead they can share their ideas and guesses in a judgment-free environment.

Kit: Ocean Freshwater & Us Giant Floor Map

Outreach Kit Rental - Ocean, Freshwater and Us: Exploring our Relationship with Canadian Waters has been developed by Ocean Week Canada and partners. This map offers students (of all ages) an opportunity to discover and explore the diverse aspects of geography in a unique and interactive way that accommodates various learning styles and is easy to integrate at all grade levels.

Kit: Writing on the Wall

Outreach Kit Rental - The objects included in the Writing on the Wall outreach kit are reproductions from the Royal BC Museum and the BC Archives. Two reproductions of wall fragments containing graffiti (or poems) are used to capture the interest of students. To learn more about the wall fragments and to answer the inquiry question “Does this graffiti deserve a place in the collection of the Royal BC Museum?” a selection of primary source documents (photographs, legislation, letters, head tax certificates and an advertisement) are also included. In addition to learning more about Chinese Canadian experience, students will also learn how to use primary sources as evidence and how to determine historical significance.
